Put a spotlight on HIV testing!
The Black Church HIV Testing Campaign rallies the support
of the Black pulpit and congregations to empower and support individuals
to get tested for HIV. Our goal is to have 10,000
people tested for HIV during events hosted
by African American faith institutions by December 2008
We are offering uplifting words of inspiration to those infected
and affected by HIV/AIDS, and we are telling everyone in our community
to take a stand and help us stop the spread of HIV by getting tested.

The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is
a powerful week of prayer, education and action. This national AIDS awareness
campaign engages Black congregations to support, encourage and empower African
Americans, Africans and all people of the Diaspora to take action toward stopping
the spread of HIV/AIDS in Black communities worldwide.
HIV/AIDS continues to spread out of control in our community! African American
women are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. As such, HIV/AIDS is the
leading cause of death among African American women ages 25 to 34.The rate
of AIDS cases for African American women is 25 times higher than the rate for
white women.

Rev. Anthony Hollins - A Living Legacy - a balm in Gilead!
The
Balm In Gilead rejoices and mourns the passing of our dear brother Rev. Anthony
Hollins. Rev. Hollins was far more than a colleague; he was a partner and
friend of The Balm In Gilead.
We certainly will miss him in the vineyard
of fighting the public health crisis of HIV/AIDS and NOT people living
with the disease.

TIME 100: The People Who Shape Our World
When
Pernessa Seele organized Harlem's first Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS
back in 1989,all she was trying to do was get a few traditionally African-American
churches to acknowledge that the lives of many of their congregants had been
devastated by HIV.
"A lot of people don't understand about prayer," says
Seele, who founded the group Balm in Gilead to disseminate accurate information
about AIDS to black churches across the U.S. "They think it's all about
healing. They don't understand that prayer opens the door. Once you say the prayer,
you can't go back to being ignorant. You want to get educated."
