- Talk to your kids about sex. This may not be easy, but it's important. Be sure to listen, even if your child has different opinions than you. Tell your child that you are there for him or her to talk to.
- Take an active role in your health care. Speak up and ask questions when you are at the doctor. Write down your questions for the doctor ahead of time.
- Learn how to manage stress. This can help prevent serious health problems such as heart disease, depression, and high blood pressure. The first step is to notice when you are feeling stressed. Look out for warning signs of stress - such as tension in your neck and shoulders.

- Plan ahead for accidents and emergencies. Keep a first aid kit in your house and in your car
- Stop Smoking! This is a preventable risk factor for cancer recurrence and additional cancers.

- Get tested for STDs. The only way to know for sure if you have an STD is to get tested. Most tests are easy and painless.

- Talk to your doctor or midwife about breastfeeding before your baby is born. Breastfeed your baby for the first 6 to 12 months, if you can.

- Learn about Folic Acid. Women of childbearing age need 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid each day. Folic acid is a vitamin that can help prevent birth defects.

- Get checked for hearing loss if you are over 65 years old. Hearing loss is one of the most common conditions affecting older adults. Many people lose their hearing slowly as they age.
